How to Hang a Large Clock — In No Time!
Hanging stuff is a breeze when you have the right tools. We not only felt like we completed this project in no time, the clock we hung read the same time when we finished as it did when we started! (Might have something to do with us forgetting to get batteries — oops!)
Call me old fashioned, but I love large clocks with big numbers so I can see the time from across a room without having to fetch my glasses. In addition, I love the look that a big classic clock gives a room. It’s simple, fun, and elegant and such an affordable way to decorate a wall.
This is how we hung it:
The clock is fitted with a large keyhole, which can be a real challenge/pain to hang.
I used Hang & Level‘s single hook to hang it, since the key fit on it well.
I moved the clock up and down the wall until we found the perfect spot. The key is to make sure it’s high enough for you to see the time from a distance, but it also needs to hang close enough to the table and chair to connect those elements together. Getting it right is all about trial and error, so have someone watch as you move the clock up and down the wall to let you know when you hit the right spot. Don’t worry about scratching the wall, the four rubber pads on the back of Hang & Level will protect the wall surface from any damage.
Take turns with your helper at judging the height. If you’re not sure, take a few snapshots to help you find the right height. It’s amazing how a camera can pick up things that the naked eye can miss.
Once you’ve found the right spot, remove the clock from the tool while keeping Hang & Level in place against the wall. Press the button to mark the exact location for the screw.
We used our Déco Screw to hang the clock, it fits perfectly in the keyhole and its head shape will prevent the clock from slipping off. The screw can hold up to 30 lbs and the clock only weighs 7 lbs, so it was safe to use.
Drive the screw into the wall. Next, hang the clock on the screw. This was the most challenging part because of its large and awkward size. Once you have it up, place your chair and voilà, you’re done!
As always, if you any questions regarding this project, email, tweet, or FB us as we’d love to help you!
