Working with Home Depot to create housing for those in need
The Home Depot Foundation helps create accessible housing for veterans and others in need through their many initiatives. We had the honor of supporting Team Depot and their local partner the Orange County Rescue Mission with painting, building and landscaping at the Double R Ranch in Silverado - a home and place for healing for many folks. At Under The Roof Decorating we also have a vision of a home for all and chatted with Kelly Krake our co-founder and CEO, who volunteered at the event, about his experience there and our corporate commitment to serve communities.
A home for everyone
Homes are places of safety, beauty and connection - and come in all kinds of types and styles. Everyone deserves a place to call home, and when we had a chance to give back to a project that was creating homes for those in need, we wanted to help out.
Interview with Kelly, Co-founder UTR Decorating
It feels good to help others, and we are forever changed when we reach out to make a difference. Kelly, tell us about your experience volunteering with Team Depot at the Double R Ranch work bee.
Q: What was it like to attend this year’s event and to help create a place for people in need to live and heal?
A: I am always so grateful for the opportunity to help and The Home Depot Foundation works with amazing partners. Everyone at the Double R Ranch, clients, volunteers and staff were so appreciative and thankful for the contributions and efforts of everyone on Team Depot.
Q: How did it feel to be working alongside so many volunteers?
A: It’s amazing to see how much can get done in a short amount of time when everyone is working together. All the volunteers were working hard and having so much fun. It felt like this team had been together for a long time, not just coming together for the first time that day. Huge thanks and credit to all the organizers leading up to, during and cleaning up after the event. Amazing people! Amazing teamwork.
Q: How has this experience changed you?
A: I was really moved and inspired by the holistic approach of the Orange County Rescue Mission. The Double R Ranch is one part of a larger mission to end homelessness and help those in need work through some very difficult challenges. It is inspiring to see what is possible when we ask, “how can I help”. It drives me to ask “what else can we do” to help, to give back and to make a really meaningful contribution.
Q: Why is it important for UTR to volunteer to help communities?
A: Giving back is a big part of our purpose and culture. We want to help make the world a better place and everyone on our team believes in this and wants to make a real difference in the world. Volunteering is one way we can help.
Thanks Kelly for sharing your Team Depot volunteer experience with us!
