Hanging a heavy mirror can be a real pain. They’re usually fitted with a pair of D-rings to distribute the weight on two contact points, which increases the level of complexity and frustration. We have an easy solution. Keep reading to see how we hung this heavy mirror, in minutes, without using a measuring tape or making mistake holes.
List of tools used:
Our Hang & Level picture hanging tool marks exactly where the nail or screw should go, eliminating mistake holes. DécoScrews are a screw and anchor in one so they are easy to install, and can hold up to 30 lbs making them perfect for heavy items like mirrors. Follow the steps below and you’ll have your mirror securely hung in only a few minutes.
Find and mark the spot for your mirror
When hanging something awkward and heavy it’s great to have some help. Have your helper hold the mirror against the wall and step back to determine the correct height and position. Once you find the right spot, mark the location of the mirror with a piece of painter’s tape. Line up the tape with a top corner and edge of the mirror. Now you know exactly where the mirror will go when you are using the picture hanging tool.
Hang one side using Hang & Level
Place the first D-ring onto the single hook of the Hang & Level, and with your helper, place the mirror and tool against the wall.
Line up the mirror with the tape on the wall to make sure it’s at the right position. Note: If the tool’s handle doesn’t clear the top of the mirror, angle it sideways. You’ll get the same results. Use a small level on top of the mirror to make sure it’s straight.
Next, remove the mirror from Hang & Level while keeping the tool against the wall. Press the button on the Hang & Level to mark the exact spot to drive the screw.
Install the first screw. Check out this video to learn more about using DécoScrews to hang heavy items.
Hang the second side
Hook the mirror on the screw while holding the other side.
While your helper is holding the mirror, place the other D-ring onto the single hook of the Hang & Level. Level the mirror. Have your helper remove the mirror while you keep the tool in place, and press the single button to mark the screw spot. Install the second screw.
Hang the mirror onto the two screws and remove the tape from the wall. And that's it, you're done!
