Giving and receiving - working with Team Depot to help veterans
We love supporting the Home Depot Foundation’s work to help veterans and their families. This year we had the great honor of supporting and volunteering with Team Depot to help the Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD). We’re grateful for the VVSD, and organizations like them, that are constantly adapting to changing needs and funding challenges, and tirelessly advocating for their clients.
It’s great to be able to volunteer in beautiful San Diego, connect with other participants and apply all the things learned back at the office. The event affirms for us the importance of continually improving our business and finding ways to give back to communities.
Helping others
With The Home Depot Foundation 100% of the donations go directly to the charity - yay! We love volunteering on-site as we can see first hand that our collective efforts are making a real difference to real people - someone’s parent, child, sibling, friend. We all need a helping hand at some point in life, and it feels good to be able to be there for one another. It just makes our communities stronger when caring is shared.
Connecting and learning
Team Depot does a great job to make the time together with other participants count. The days are so well organized that it’s easy to get a lot accomplished. Our team, one of 25 sub-teams this year, built some bedside storage units, which were cleverly designed, and then we helped build outdoor planter stands - we even got to add in the soil and plants. There’s nothing like Nature and helping to lift spirits!
Each year we connect again with people we’ve met at past events, and meet new folks, too. The volunteers are such a diverse group and it’s always interesting what we learn from each other. Because of the conversations throughout the event, I have a long list of different ideas to share with my colleagues back at the office to inspire our conversations about making our business better.
Making our business count
It’s fun to share the event details with our team. They get to learn about the charity and the people impacted, and we talk about the ideas generated from connecting with other participants. For us, it’s important to keep the larger community and our shared planet in mind when we are dealing with our day to day work. We're vigilant about improving the way we do things, because our customers and partners deserve our very best.
