An Oprah-inspired spring refresh
Just when as we were emerging from winter and craving some fresh color for our office walls, the April issue of O Magazine arrived in our mailbox. The gorgeous pastels featured on the cover and throughout the issue were just the inspiration we needed to spring us into renovation action.
We wanted to paint our wall with one of the soft Benjamin Moore shades highlighted in Adam’s Style Sheet (page 50). We couldn’t decide which one, so we asked our followers to help us choose through a voting contest. It was a tight race, but the winner was Antiguan Sky, a pretty muted teal.
With the painting complete, all that remained was to decorate. We gave the space an eclectic look with a vintage table, various accessories we already had and an inspiring chalkboard message. The soft teal wall color is surprisingly versatile, providing just the right amount of contrast with our decorative items while not competing for attention. We can’t wait to try a few different looks using this new color as a backdrop.
Since O Magazine was such an inspiration for us in this project, we couldn’t resist paying tribute to its cover. We headed to Reitmans for wardrobe shopping and found some splatter-print pants similar to Oprah’s, a pastel pink top, coral headband and dangly earrings. Then we set up our props and struck a pose just like hers. We’ve always dreamed of being featured in O Magazine, and now that dream has (sort of) become a reality!
Here’s a quick video of how the whole thing came together:
We really have to thank the team from O Magazine for inspiring us this month. Where have you found inspiration lately? We’d love to know.
Update: Oprah’s team loved our cover mock-up so much that they featured us in their July issue! It really was a dream come true.
