Stampede Décor on a Dime

It’s early July, and if you live and work in Calgary, Alberta like we do, you know it’s Stampede time! Under the Roof’s headquarters are located only a few blocks away from the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, The Calgary Stampede, which means that we’re right in the middle of the madness. Yahoo!

During the annual ten-day event (July 8 – 17), our city completely transforms itself from cosmopolitan to western. Windows are painted with western scenes, hay bales and barn wood decorate the facades of offices, restaurants, and pubs, and there are free pancake breakfasts and entertainment offered all over the city.

We didn’t want to feel left out, so we did a little five-minute decorating project of our own. I found a piece of drift wood at the beach, brought it in the office, stuck it in a planter, and presto, it was transformed into a handy cowboy/cowgirl hat rack. Placed by the front door with a pair of cowboy boots, a turquoise colored chair, and a small sisal rug, it’s the perfect touch our office needed to get into the Stampede spirit.
