Most common picture hanging mistake in a bedroom
One of the most often asked questions we get is “How high or how low should I hang artwork above my headboard?” Framed artwork looks great over a headboard when placed properly — here’s what to do and what to avoid:
As a general rule, the bottom of your frame should hang 8” to 10” above the headboard. If you hang artwork any higher it might look like it’s floating away from the headboard instead of being connected to it. Of course there are always exceptions and you may find that you have to tweak that measurement depending on the size of the picture you’re hanging or if you’re hanging a grouping of several pieces.
The right way: 8” to 10” above the headboard:
Often people will measure the wall space between the ceiling and the top of the headboard and hang their artwork right in the middle. If you do this, there’s a good chance that your frame will end up sitting too high. Since art is an extension of your furniture, it looks best to connect art to the piece of furniture that is sitting below. Keep this rule in mind when hanging pictures above any type of furniture.
