Wow! It's almost been 10 years since I was Mompreneur's Cover Girl. I was featured in the June 2007 issue. I know this is going to sound cliché but where does the time go?
We’re about to shake up the world of picture hanging and we want you to be part of it. Picture hanging hasn’t changed in a hundred years, and we want to fix that. We’ve designed revolutionary technology that lets you simply push frames into the wall to hang them. I know – it seems impossible – but it’s true! The frames feature custom brackets in the top corners, allowing you to hang the frames quickly and securely – no need for a hammer or nail.
Here's a simple tip that will save you time and headaches too. When hanging a grouping of identical frames, number the back of the frames from 1 to 9 (or however many you're putting up) starting with the one on the right, top row, second row right to left, and bottom row right to left.
It’s early July, and if you live and work in Calgary, Alberta like we do, you know it’s Stampede time! Under the Roof’s headquarters are located only a few blocks away from the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, The Calgary Stampede, which means that we’re right in the middle of the madness. Yahoo!
You get back from holidays with hundreds of great vacation snapshots, but what happens to those precious images once you’re home? If you’re like most people, you get busy with unpacking and laundry and completely forget about them, so they sit in your camera or smartphone for months.
Call me old-fashioned, but I love holiday traditions and I hope that my annual November get-together with friends to make tourtières, a traditional meat pie from Québec, will continue for years to come.
I’ll never forget October 18, 2004, when we changed my decorating business into a product development, design, marketing and sales company. The name stayed the same, we simply added “Inc” to become Under the Roof Decorating Inc. (UTR). The invention of Hang & Level, our picture-hanging tool, was the catalyst for this major change. We wanted to make picture hanging easier, so with our team we focused on developing a whole line of innovative wall decorating solutions.

It’s almost been eight years to the day since Kelly (my business partner) and I were featured in Alberta Venture magazine’s October 12, 2006 issue.
In 2010, I was featured on TELUS TV showcasing some innovative ways that you can create huge impact on your walls - not your wallet. We may no longer be in a deep recession, but the economic downturn had a lasting impact on how we live, shop and spend. We still want to create a beautiful and comfortable home we'll love, but we're also looking for ways to trim our spending and balance our budgets. Home décor doesn't have to be expensive. Anything from children's art to cd covers can become art. In fact, some of the most beautiful pieces that have the biggest impression are often the most affordable. Click to view the video.
It’s been a crazy busy week at our office with the planning and filming of our new “How To” product videos. We’ve been writing, editing, shooting, and editing again — it's a lot of work, but so much fun at the same time.
Here’s a sneak peek of what we did:
Every room in your house can be beautifully decorated, including the bathroom. Create a focal point by hanging pictures over the towel bar.
If you're not sure whether a piece of artwork is the right size for your wall space, map it out with Painter's Tape just like we did here. This will help you visualize and instantly confirm if the dimensions are right. It's easy to do and you'll be amazed at how well it works.
A few weeks ago, I made my very own gallery wall using pictures of my kids from one of our holidays. Within hours I completely transformed a boring wall into a very lively space. Since then, I’ve been having fun creating different looks for my hallway simply by using furniture and accessories I already had. Which […]
If you have time to squeeze in a DIY this weekend, this one is for you. It's easy peasy — no Martha Stewart skills are needed to recreate this look. As you may know, runway fashion influences everything and anything we buy for our home.
